Government Relations Lawyer
John concentrates on Municipal and Administrative law,
with an emphasis on development and zoning issues.
He is the City Attorney for Altoona, Cornell, Cumberland,
Durand, St. Croix Falls and the Villages of Bruce and
Solon Springs and the Town of Wascott.
In addition, John has an extensive private sector practice dedicated to zoning and regulatory issues. John represents Western Wisconsin Energy Corporation and multiple green energy facilities in the Midwest, owned by Babcock & Brown, an international banking institution. He also serves as Wisconsin counsel for INDECK Energy, Owens Corning and the Alter Trading Corporation. John is the general counsel to Northwest Passage and the Northwest Counseling Day Treatment Centers. John is the Firm's Vice-President, co-chairs the Firm's Government Relations section and is a member of the Firm's management committee.
Before joining the firm, John was a lobbyist for Capitol Consultants, a Madison-based lobbying and consulting firm. Prior to serving as a lobbyist, John was an aid to Governor Tommy Thompson in both Washington and Wisconsin. While in the Thompson Administration, John was the Governor's Policy Advisor on labor, employment and regulatory issues. John was appointed to serve in the Office of the Secretary at the Department of Commerce. While at Commerce, John assisted businesses working to expand or relocate in Wisconsin.
Volunteerism is also a priority of John's life He is a former two term board member of Angel On My Shoulder, a statewide cancer support foundation. He is currently a member of the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce - Good Government Council, the Sacred Heart Hospital Advisory Council, the Globe University Oversight Committee and a board member for the Wisconsin Equal Justice Fund, as well as a founding and current member of the Board of Directors for the Northwest Passage Foundation. John previously served for three years as the Public Affairs Chairman of the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce and the Catholic Area Schools Finance Committee. He is the founding chair for the Wisconsin State Fair Park Youth Foundation and a former two term director for the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation Board.
John is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science in political science and economics. He also attended Georgetown University of Economics and received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School. He has been recognized four consecutive years by Law and Politics and Milwaukee Magazine as a Rising Star in administrative law.
